Biography

Holly Matthews

Holly Matthews started work as a professional actress at the tender young age of 11. After writing to Helen Gregory (the producer of Byker Grove) without her parent's knowledge, the petite, brunette actress was asked to audition and although the Geordie actress was too young for the part she originally auditioned for, the producers of Byker Grove liked her and wrote her in the part of Emma Miller.

Holly's character Emma Miller was a lead character in the Byker Grove for over 7 years, where she had many exciting storylines and worked with some very established actors and directors.

Holly's character Emma eventually left the show to seek fame and fortune in London as a pop singer, something Holly was already working on herself, in real life.

So like life imitating art Holly Matthews met with top London record producers and eventually signed a recording contract with Sony UK.

Holly's single 'Little Miss Perfect' which was released under the name Summer Matthews, reached number 28 in the UK charts and number 1 on the Chart show. The 'Little Miss Perfect' music video was played constantly on the music channels MTV, The Box, TMF and Flaunt.

During Holly's promotional tour under Summer Matthews for 'Little Miss Perfect', Holly raised her profile by appearing on TV shows such as Top of the Pops, MTV, TRL, CBEEBIES, CBBC, Blue Peter, Loraine Kelly's show and The Saturday Show.

Holly was also featured in tons of UK magazines and newspapers such as The Daily Star, Top of the Pops magazine, Shout, Sugar, J17, More, Hot Stars, Hello magazine, O.K. magazine, Elle girl and the high brow Daily Mail

After Holly's single was released Holly was eager to get back to her acting roots and was awarded a place at the critically acclaimed UK drama school East 15, where Holly refined her skills as an actress and learned more about her craft.

Holly was then offered the role of Leigh-Ann Galloway, the school bully in the BBC's prime time drama Waterloo Road, where she starred alongside great British actors such as Angela Griffin, Denise Welch, Jason Merrells and Jamie Glover.

Leigh-Ann was a brilliant part for the Geordie actress to play but as a controversial figure Leigh-Ann Galloway was eventually expelled from Waterloo Road School.

Since her role in Waterloo Road, Holly has continued to work on some of the UK's top TV programmes, including ITV's The Bill, the BBC's day time soap opera Doctors, the critically acclaimed Criminal Justice 2, BBC3 comedy Way to Go and the BBC's primetime Saturday night hospital drama, Casualty.

Holly Matthews is a busy young actress who has also appeared in pantomime for the last few years, played the role of Juliet in a UK tour of Romeo and Juliet and been a presenter on the most popular under 5's radio show CBEEBIES on BBC radio 7.

Her film career is blossoming and just this year she has worked with award winning director Simon Ellis on his ground breaking film, Stew & Punch, appeared in UK/LA feature film Tin Holiday and has other projects booked for later in the year.
